President of Tajikistan, H.E Emomali Rahmon will arrive in Pakistan on 2nd June. Prime Minister Imran Khan placed the invitation. Rahmon will be on a two-day visit from 2-3 June 2021. Along with him, there will be a high-level delegation from Tajikistan. In the past President Rahmon has visited Pakistan seven times Since 1994.
Prime Minister Imran Khan and President Rahmon will be leading their respective sides in the delegation-level talks during the visit. The two sides will exchange words on deepening bilateral cooperation in diverse areas. During the visit, the parties will sign several Agreements/MoUs. Moreover, the visiting dignitary will be separately meeting with President Dr Arif Alvi.
Both States Share Common Views on Regional and International Issues
Pakistan and Tajikistan share common views on major regional and international issues and cooperate at multilateral fora. In March 2021, Foreign Minister of Pakistan Shah Mahmood Qureshi visited Dushanbe. During the visit, he attended the Ministerial meeting of the Heart of Asia-Istanbul Process (HoA-IP) and visited Tajikistan.
In addition, both countries held the 5th round of Pakistan-Tajikistan Bilateral Political Consultations on 25th May. The purpose of the meeting was to review the whole gamut of bilateral relations.
CASA-1000 Will Transport Electric Power to Pakistan and Afghanistan
Along with the Kyrgyz Republic and Afghanistan, Pakistan and Tajikistan are part of the CASA-1000 Transmission Line Project. The power project serves the objective of transporting surplus electric power from the Kyrgyz Republic and Tajikistan to Pakistan (1000 MW) and Afghanistan (300 MW).
