According to Senior Hezb-i-Islami Afghanistan member Humayon Jareer, a powerful High State Council (HSC) is in the making. President Ashraf Ghani, former President Hamid Karzai, and HIA leader Gulbuddin Hekmatyar have agreed on the formation of a powerful High State Council. The meeting took place in the residence of the former President, Hamid Karzai. The members discussed the current political and geopolitical issues that Afghanistan is facing.
President Ashraf Ghani and the members of the meeting mutually agreed that no external power will be allowed to interfere and worsen Afghanistan’s personal affairs. Likewise, the Afghans have the full authority to run and manage their own affairs.
Moreover, Salahuddin Rabbani stated; ‘the majority of politicians and leaders will not become part of a council led by President Ghani.’
The committee announced that the HSC will have two specialties; Firstly, the council will constitute only seven to eight persons. Secondly, the council will have the power to determine solutions for major national issues.
Reportedly, President Ashraf Ghani, Karzai and Hekmatyar have agreed that the HSC would be comprised of political leaders. The leaders will represent all those involved in the peace and security of the country.
Spokesperson Abdul Meftab Ahmadzai said that President Ashraf Ghani started his struggles to complete council by mutually including all opposition. Additionally, the creation of HSC will allow Ashraf Ghani to give legitimacy to his Peace Plan, through this council.
Lastly, according to Menapal, efforts for political consensus on peace are underway. Furthermore, he stated that; ‘the HSC is a joint body representing the republic and all would defend the past achievements, national institutions, the constitution and the republican system.’
