During his visit to Pakistan, the Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov met Pakistan’s Foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Chief of army staff Qamar Javed Bajwa. He will also meet PM Imran khan.

During the meeting with Qureshi, their talks were particularly focusing on the Afghan peace process and increasing violence in Afghanistan.

Both ministers assured their continuous support for Afghanistan.

Lavrov said that they were concerned by the deterioration of the situation in Afghanistan’s security. The rapidity in terrorist activities and March of ISIL in the east and north of the country was also concerning.

Moreover, he said that they agreed to further support the opposing and hostile parties in Afghanistan. In order to reach an agreement and end the civil war through dialogue.

Whereas, FM Qureshi said that the two sides had seen “good cooperation” on their Afghan policies. He further added that they successfully discussed the “expanded Troika” meeting which will be held in Moscow on 18th March.

Both countries tried to strengthen their ties and discussed cooperation in the military sector. Russia offered new hardware to the Pakistan military.

Meeting with COAS Bajwa 

Today Lavrov had a meeting with Qamar Javed Bajwa. The COAS Bajwa said that Pakistan welcomes all initiative which can bring Peace and Stability in Afghanistan and in the region as a whole.

During the meeting which took place in General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, the matters of mutual interest, for instance, collaboration in Defense and security affairs and regional security certainly the Afghan peace process were discussed.

Army Staff informed FM Lavrov that Pakistan values its relations with Russia and reciprocates the desire for military cooperation among both states.
