Muhammad Karim Khalili, chairman Hizb e Islami Afghanistan, visited Pakistan this week, where he met Prime Minister Imran Khan, COAS General Qamar Javed Bajwa, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Shah Mehmood Qureshi. The meetings’ focus was on peace talks and political affairs.
Meeting with Shah Mehmood Qureshi
Minister of Foreign Affairs Shah Mehmood Qureshi spoke to Ustad Karim Khalili about regional stability. He said it is important to reduce violence in the country, which will improve regional peace. He also stressed upon the role of “spoilers” who are spoiling the peace between Afghanistan and Pakistan by targeting the international borders of Pakistan. Khalili thanked Shah Mehmood Qureshi for Pakistan’s cooperation in the peace process and for hosting millions of Afghan Refugees.
Moreover, Ustad Khalili appreciated Pakistan’s efforts to take steps and strengthen the trade relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan. He also thanked Pakistan for facilitating Afghan nationals by revising the visa policy.
Meeting with COAS
Additionally, in a separate meeting, Ustad Khalili and COAS discussed the issues where Pakistan and Afghanistan have their mutual interests, regional peace and stability, and developments in the Afghan peace process. Pakistan Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa said, “Peace in Afghanistan means peace in Pakistan.”
Meeting with PM Imran Khan
Furthermore, in the meeting between Ustad Khalili and PM Imran Khan, they exchanged views over recent developments. The Prime Minister stressed on the bilateral relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan. Cooperation in trade and regional connectivity is needed to have stability in Afghanistan.
Lastly, Afghanistan expressed its satisfaction over the intra-Afghan relations and says it provides a better opportunity for Afghan leaders to cooperate and interact with one and another.
