Negotiations and discussions between US envoys under the leadership of Zalmay Khalilzad with senior Taliban leaders took place on Wednesday. This peace pact was signed by last year in Doha.  Last Thursday, Gulbuddin Hekmatyar shared the idea of their own peace plan with the Afghan leader. He said their party shared the plan for peace with their political leaders in the country.

The plan includes the major part of the withdrawal of the forces from Afghanistan. While appointing an interim government with the resignations of the current government. This, he urges, is part of the plan as discussed with the US. Therefore, he also concluded that the US should cater to all the parts of the plan as agreed.

Hekmatyar emphasizes mutual agreement of peace deal and honours it from both sides

Furthermore, Hekmatyar informed of the preparations that they are making for the upcoming UN-led conference on Afghanistan in Turkey Summit. He said their members of the High Council of National Reconciliation (HCNR), political movements and political parties are also working on their discussion plans. This is to make sure that all present parties are on the same page and to avoid any misunderstanding during the summit of Afghanistan peace. In his views, the government and the High Council of National Reconciliation are not prepared for any mutual plan. Which again can be a problem.

Moreover, he also noted that the US shall keep their words to withdraw all troops from Afghanistan. The withdrawal will take place according to the approved plan that both parties have approved.

He notified that the Taliban’s supreme leader Mullah Haibatullah Akhundzada is not going to present at the upcoming summit. Therefore, President Ashraf Ghani should lead a delegation in the conference. Even so, as per the Taliban representatives, the political deputy of the Taliban or the deputy of the Islamic emirate will attend the conference.

The demand for Ghani’s resignation

However so, the intra-Afghan peace deal is indeed facing obstacles. On coming Friday, supporters will gather to demand the resignations of the contemporary government. The current Ghani’s Government doesn’t approve of these demands. Abdul Rashid Ayoubi, an advisor to President Ghani urged that the Taliban should not be rigid. In fact, in order to show support for the peace deal, the Taliban should give some space for negotiations.
