These 4G services will grant locals access to high-speed internet services, and a source of revenue for the government. The Ministry of Information and Technology, has announced that auctions will be held by the 30th of June,2021.
Meeting between Ministry of IT and PTA
Ministry of IT along with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) gave a briefing to Prime Minister Imran Khan about the initiative. Chief Minister GB Khalid Khurshid and other officials from GB and AJK secretariat were also present in meeting.
Additionally, traditional security-related restrictions will also be relaxed. The GB and AJK areas can expect high-speed internet services by the year-end.
The discussion also mentioned a UK-based consulting firm Frontier Economics Ltd that will be working on parameters and mode of auction across the country.
The auction of the license will be at a low price rate in GB and AJK as compared to other regions of Pakistan, as these areas require a high amount of investment.
The official told that, “Besides, the proceeds from an auction of the spectrum will be deposited in the National Consolidated Fund, whereas there is a different mechanism to give the share of proceeds to GB and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.”
Telenor is providing 4G internet services in Gilgit city only. Special Communications Organization (SCO), has taken responsibility by telecommunication and internet Services. New auction will add up to its services and will be helpful for citizens of AJK and GB.
